Production of Fluidized Milk Products

Under a design-build-finance-operate agreement, Ecovation constructed and is operating a wastewater pretreatment and renewable energy production plant for a fluidized milk products cooperative in Upstate New York. As part of a completely new integrated wastewater pretreatment solution, the customer’s process wastewater will be treated by a Krofta dissolved air flotation (DAF) unit followed by aerobic treatment. The customer’s high-strength UF permeate, a byproduct of milk protein concentrate, will be treated by Ecovation’s Mobilized Film Technology (MFT) to maximize energy potential. Treatment of the UF permeate produces biogas for use in the facility’s boiler plant to generate steam. While the footprint of the new treatment plant is less than ½ acre, the plant is designed to be easily expanded to meet the customer’s future production needs.

Benefits:
• Biogas expected to offset manufacturing facility’s natural gas requirements
• Eliminate disposal of high-strength wastes
• Eliminate pretreatment compliance issues, and reduce surcharges and odors
• No capital outlay by the customer
